Henman, Ferrero and Bahrami Join McEnroe and Rafter - Champions Tennis

LONDON (June 7, 2016) – IMG today announced that former World No.1 and Roland Garros Champion Juan Carlos Ferrero, British fan favourite Tim Henman and the ever-popular Mansour Bahrami will compete at the Champions Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall event, taking place in London 30 November – 4 December, 2016. They will join John McEnroe, who headlined the inaugural event in London in 1997, and the two-time US Open Champion Patrick Rafter and help celebrate Champions Tennis’ 20th anniversary this December.

Having retired from professional tennis in 2012, Spain’s Ferrero will make his debut in London this year. During his career, he became the 21st player to capture the ATP World Tour No.1 ranking after winning the Roland Garros title in 2003. He is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, at the 2002 Roland Garros and the 2003 US Open. In addition to his 16 career singles titles, he won three Davis Cup titles for Spain.

A fan-favourite and former British No.1, Henman will be making his seventh appearance at Champions Tennis. Henman won the event in 2011 and reached the final in 2015. He was ranked as high as No.4 in the World during his career and has captured eleven career singles titles in addition to reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals four times.

Henman and Ferrero have met three times during their careers with Ferrero holding a 2-1 edge. Both players will compete in the tournament’s ATP Champions Tour field.

Iranian-born Bahrami reached the French Open men’s doubles final in 1989 and since the start of the ATP Champions Tour has played in tournament and exhibitions around the world, including playing Champions Tennis every year since its inception in 1997, and entertaining crowds with his trick-shot wizardry and humour.

“It is always such a pleasure to have Tim compete at the Champions Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall event. Though his days of competing on the ATP World Tour are behind him, he is still one of the most beloved sports figures in Britain. Mansour always brings something special to the event each year as the crowd can’t help but smile when watching him play, and one of the great gentlemen of tennis, Juan Carlos Ferrero has had an incredible career and we are thrilled to have him join the ATP Champions Tour line-up this year, as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Champions Tennis at Royal Albert Hall’’ said Tournament Chairman Jan Felgate.

Champions Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall, the season-finale to the ATP Champions Tour, is played over five days with a day and evening session each day. The 2016 edition will mark the 20th anniversary of the event which over the years has featured tennis’s greatest stars, including Pete Sampras, Tim Henman, Goran Ivanisevic, Bjorn Borg, Andy Roddick, and James Blake. Additional participants of the event will be announced in due course.
