Santoro prevails at Champions Tennis - Champions Tennis

Fabrice Santoro is the last man standing at Champions Tennis after prevailing over Xavier Malisse in the final on Sunday at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The Frenchman barely made it through the high-quality match against the Belgian, finding another gear in the Champions Tie-break to prevail 6-4, 2-6, [10-6]. The win gives Santoro his first Champions Tennis title in his debut ATP Champions Tour event of 2016.

“This was a good match and a fun fight. The whole week has been great,” said Santoro. “I feel so privileged to play here and now win the title. It was like a dream every time I arrived on court. Hopefully I will come back!”

Despite the loss, Malisse had only positives to take from his week in London.

“This was a lot of fun, but a lot of running. Too much maybe!” joked Malisse. “I had a great week and really appreciate all the support.”

John McEnroe will finish the year at No. 1 in the ATP Champions Tour rankings with 1,000 points, followed by James Blake (880) and Juan Carlos Ferrero (700).
